40pc violence suffered by men

Article 4.1      April 8, 2021

Men Can Be Abused Too

A few snippets from my published article on the above topic.

Performing a www search of the term "domestic violence against men" results in well over 30 web-pages on the topic from countries all over the world.

One of the better articles is on Wikipedia here at Wikipedia: Domestic violence against men

This article reveals a related term known as Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) which is a more descriptive term for violence by one partner on another, whilst Domestic Violence (DV) can be against any person in the domestic setting.

It is claimed that about 85% of reported domestic violence is against women, another report claims that over 40% of DV is against men, whilst yet another claims the figures to be closer to 50:50.

All the reports, surveys, and articles are very interesting and well worth taking time out to read some of them.

All of them make some mention of the stigma surrounding men being beaten by women and how it affects their mental state, their masculinity and how they are reluctant to talk about it because it makes them appear unmanly and weak.

Some reports even go as far as saying that some surveys and researches into the topic are politicized!

Whilst others, regrettably, attempt to turn the focus away from violent women and make claims of metal illness.

My poem is in support of all men, both openly or secretly, experienceing violence, of whatever sort, in their own homes.

red poppies field

On the 11th of the 11th say "Lest We Forget"

A few snippets from my published article on the above topic.

I wrote this poem a couple of years ago when I was a little taken aback by a news article about white poppy sellers who were encroaching on some territories normally used by red poppy sellers.

I have no wish to enter into a debate regarding the use of the white poppy or pacifism especially since some will actually wear both the white and red poppies together.

I simply wish to lend a little support to the use of the red poppy once a year on the various Remembrance Days around the world.

The red poppy is not a symbol to glorify war, nor to desensitize it, but is simply a reminder of those who were involved in the struggle for liberty and of those who were left behind wondering.

to avoid it, prepare for war

If You Want Peace, Prepare For War

I have granted the copyright of my poem to the Royal British Legion for their own use.

Rudyard Kipling’s “Mandalay” – a Personal Analysis

A few snippets from my published article on the above topic.

The rhythm, the melody, the beat, call it what you will, is a natural gait that swings back and forth as the tale develops

It stirs memories and a yearning for a neater, greener land because, it says, that if the East comes calling, a person won’t heed anything else.

The poem was innocently written by Kipling from the point of view of a Victorian era British soldier who, like most people of those days, could only travel to exotic climes due to work requirements.

The cockney soldier, now back in cold, dank London, is reminiscing of the time he spent in Burma (now also called Myanmar)

He visited a famous landmark pagoda and met, flirted, and had something of a romantic time with a local girl, similar to many romances between local girls and stationed soldiers all over the world. Enjoy.
